Five weeks ago today, I gave birth to my youngest little man. Apparently, over these past five weeks my oldest, a very intelligent, curious, and extremely theatrical 3 year old boy has been seriously thinking about some big questions in life. "How did the baby come out of your belly?" This is the question that came out of his little brain while sitting at Denny's on Tuesday. Yes, we were totally taking advantage of their "Kids eat free" deal.
I really wasn't expecting it, and I really didn't know how to respond. My only thinking was, "Shit." Which I mouthed to my equally shocked husband. After a few seconds of just staring at his big blues, I finally asked, "How do YOU think the baby came out?"
Without skipping a beat, he answered, "He busted right out of your belly!" Whew! Dodged a bullet.
"Yep! He busted right out!"
Over the past few days, he's come up with more theories. Every once and a while, he'll walk over to "Baby Banana" and touch him on the face...or worse...come over to me and push on my still jiggly stomach as say, "The baby came out of your belly?" Then he'll come up with some extremely interesting idea of how his brother came out. Today's was that he "crawled out". Sure. That's what happened.
When do we really start answering these questions truthfully? Man, I'm not looking forward to that awkward moment.
